And this scary leap, returning to a 100% entrepreneur, has already proven itself to bring us all back closer with each other. It's exciting, more meaningful, and feels like the right path. In this short time we've made new connections with people who are helping us realize our business growth. And it's also made me feel even more confident about our products because of the support and great feedback. No matter what happens in the short term, I love that we are creating our lifestyle and career rather than settling for a 'pre-packaged' one. Oh sorry- I mean to say in the beginning that I don't think its a problem to use Crayola crayons at all- and then also that just to make sure to not claim to be affiliated with Crayola in any way...

Many people use crayons as part of their art such as Herb William, who exclusively uses Crayola, and Diem Chau, who was even commissioned to do these crayon sculptures by the likes of Nike.

I would suggest not to use Crayola as a *selling point* though- and to make it clear that you have no affiliation with them. I think that would be a problem- to use Crayola's licensed and trademarked name without their permission.

Generally I would just stay away from using any mass produced brands in a recognizable form- which is also why we make our own molds instead of store-bought molds. This year we will be going a step further and may finally develop our own crayon recipe too. For me it just feels better to have everything be 100% original to avoid these kinds of legal complications. Plus it feels nice to be able to say that 'this can't be found anywhere else.'

I've been making my own crayons for about a year or so and selling them. I found out you can't use "character" molds and sell the crayons because you don't own the character, but you can use Wilton molds and sell them. I was wondering if you knew if it was legal to use Crayola crayons and sell them after we've mold them? I assume it is okay since we are using it as a tool in making our products. Just wondering!

If you match what you are doing to the picture:

Grab the left ear with your left hand
Notice the corner of the paper meeting the right ear? Grab that with your right hand and tug it towards you.
It should open out until you have the 3rd image. Then continue onto step 18.

Hi Brittany! I'm not a nutritionist so I can't say for sure... but I think they'd be like 100-200 calories each for a 2.5" or 3" star. I think it would really depend on how big (or little) you make them.

When I was dieting I would ration out X amount of cookies in little zip lock snack bags so I knew how much I could eat per sitting. Otherwise Id just stuff my face til satisfied X]

Aside from being an artist, I am also a local Indie rock band producer/promoter here in L.A. and I can appreciate this blog entry so much. I am amazed, of all the bands I've been around for years, I have never encountered any one who did this or even attempted to. This is awesome! Great job!

This is the best tutorial I have ever seen. You warned of the pitfalls and did not assume your viewers had great skills. I do not have a lot of sewing experience and your instructions made this easy. Thank you!
